In the midst of war, famine, horrible stories
of oppressions, continual bombings by Khartoum, recent missile attack, there
is ONE place in New Sudan that stands out as a source of hope, a lighthouse
for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.....the new Bible School located in Yei.
Through the generosity of the local authorities, Kalibu Ministries was GIVEN this former British Agricultural College campus. Of course, when we took possession, it was nothing like what you see above. Everything, including roof, fixtures, furniture, doors, windows, and even their frames had been looted by the National Islamic Front troops from Khartoum. Mines were everywhere. The bush had taken hold and it was nearly impossible to move from one broken-down building to the next without a machete in hand. With prayer, dedication, diligence, and alot of hard work, this site no longer lies in ruins, but will soon be bustling with activity as the first group of students begin with their classes. These students will include SPLA officers to be trained as chaplains and sent back to their units armed with the Word of God. They will be local church leaders from ALL denominations, who are currently desperately trying to meet the spiritual needs of the people with almost no training whatsoever. They will be young men with the call of God to go forth as evangelists to the more remote areas. The possibilities for this school are unending ....and totally in God's hands. There is still alot to do: electricity (from our generator), plumbing, completion of toilet and bathing facilities, building of doors, windows, furniture for classrooms and beds for the students. Books, paper, office equipment, pens, chalk and erasers are all needed. Crops are being planted as quickly as the land is prepared, but much additional food will be needed to properly care for all the students. We need your help, especially in the areas of finances to complete the building, and also for monthly student support. If you are looking for "good ground" in which to invest, please consider the effort in New Sudan. |

New Sudan - Orphanage
Our first "orphan" was "Little Michael," who, at the age of only nine, had already served for five years in the army of Khartoum. He made his escape and surrendered to the SPLA. Because the SPLA does not use children as soldiers, our dear friend Commander Thomas asked us to care for Little Michael. He was essentially adopted by Kalibu and has become a part of the Kalibu family. I encourage you to read his testimony. Kalibu Ministries in New Sudan has been given a sizeable portion of land in Yei through the generosity of the SPLM government. In addition to the Bible School, we look to build an orphanage for these displaced children. Not only will we provide a roof over their heads and food for their bodies, but we will minister to their souls through solid preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Additionally, we will open a school to give these precious children the education they need to help New Sudan build a future. Construction will begin when the finances are made available, and we seriously pray that that will be soon. |
Mobile Medical ClinicsI visited a village and lamented over the lack of readily available health care. Too often, these villagers face only two options when a loved one falls sick: carry them up to 50 miles on their backs, or dig a grave in anticipation of death. In nations such as New Sudan and Mocambique, medical facilities are few and far between. Limited only to a few populated cities, these facilities cannot reach the masses.....and multitudes die senselessly. Kalibu Ministries is working to develop two mobile medical clinics....one for Mocambique and one for New Sudan. These will be staffed by missionary and local nurses, and carry basic medical supplies and drugs. These vehicles will make routine visits to the remote villages and conduct mini-medical clinics there. Cases beyond the scope of our expertise will be transported to the nearest hospital or permanent clinic. Not only will these mobile clinics minister to the physical needs of
the people, but will address spiritual needs as well. They will also be
preaching the Gospel, praying for the sick, and counseling families in
matters pertaining to complete well-being. |
