The faithfulness of the Lord is beyond our wildest imagination! I am sitting here on a hillside in the middle of the African bush in the nation of Zambia. The place where I am staying is the Presidential Lodge that has hosted kings, queens and presidents from around the world. It is a magnificent retreat overlooking the great Luangwa River snaking across the plains below. African animals are in abundance and even graze on the lawns of the retreat in the evening. Lumbering elephants in the valley are easily seen with the naked eye, lions roar in the early mornings and a huge herd of buffalo look like a nest of black ants covering the land. This place is idyllic in the midst of the beauty and glory of the creation unspoiled by man. The opulence of this retreat blends perfectly with the breath–taking beauty of the scenery. It is hard to imagine that anything untoward has ever taken place in the midst of this serene magnificence and yet it did.

 

How could I ever imagine that the Lord would bring me to the place where plans and schemes for destruction of nations had been plotted? I remember many years ago being taken to a magnificent mansion in Berlin. Oh, the beauty of that place was beyond description. The irony was that it had been built in 1870 by an exceptionally wealthy Jewish industrialist. In the glorious drawing room of that mansion, Hitler and thirty seven of his leaders had planned and signed the “Final Solution.” Actually, the correct title of the document was, “The Annihilation of the Jews and the God of the Jews for All Time.” What a revisit of Haman that diabolic plan was all about. In the same way that Haman was overcome by the Lord through the faithful intercession of Esther, so Hitler was overcome by the faithful intercession of the staff and students of the Bible College of Wales.

 

It was in this very retreat that four southern African presidents sought the overthrow of Dr. Hastings Banda, the then President of Malawi. Those four presidents were Robert Mugabe the tyrant of Zimbabwe, Kenneth Kaunda the socialist dictator of Zambia, Julius Nyrere the communist leader of Tanzania and Samora Machel the tyrant of Mozambique. In this glorious place they schemed and plotted how to bring Malawi into the socialist/communist family of nations and effectively nullify the church as they had done in their own nations. They forgot one powerfully significant fact: there is a God in Heaven who rules the affairs of men and brings to naught the machinations of wicked men when the Church knows how to intercede.

 

At exactly the same time that these Godless and evil leaders were planning and plotting their next move that weekend, a powerful band of intercessors was concluding an intercession conference in the southern tip of Malawi also that very same weekend. As their intercessions spiraled up to the Lord, the place of intercession was gained, victory was assured and the burden of the Holy Spirit for the nation of Mozambique for over 10 years was lifted. The intercessors were literally pulling the president of Mozambique from the sky, not knowing that at that exact time, he was returning to Maputo in his presidential jet carrying with him the blue prints of the take over of Malawi. His plane crashed that night on the mountains of eastern South Africa. Samora Machel was killed, the blue prints were found and the entire plan exposed. Intercession had, once again, really worked. The Haman of Mozambique was hanged on the Lord’s gallows. The facts are all clearly recorded in detail in my book, “Love Constrained.” With the death of Machel, Malawi was saved and Mozambique turned from hardened communism. The peace between the Mozambican communist forces and guerilla freedom fighters became a reality. The war monger Robert Mugabe was finally exposed and isolated. God had moved to save entire nations through simple obedience.

 

Now, almost 20 years later, I am sitting at the very spot where these diabolic plans had been hatched. How could I ever imagine that the Lord would have brought me to this place after leading that intercession for freedom for over a decade? The Lord surely rewards our faithfulness, not that we look for it or ever deserve it.

 

Here I am, marveling yet again at the greatness and goodness of the Lord. Beloved, may you never give up the Lord’s fight. In due season, you shall surely reap your reward if you neither weary nor faint not. Never in my wildest imagination would I ever have thought of being in this place.

 

SOUTHERN SUDAN

 

The sudden and unexpected death of SPLA/SPLM leader in Southern Sudan Dr. John Garang de Mabior, came as a great shock to everyone. Suburbs of Khartoum, capital of Sudan and Juba, capital of Southern Sudan erupted into violence, looting and destruction as Dr. Garang’s Dinka Bor followers went on the rampage as they blamed the

leader’s death on foul play by Khartoum. The architect of the Peace Accord signed on 31st December last year and Vice President of all Sudan and President of Southern Sudan died in a helicopter accident.

 

It seemed that the entire accord was thrown into jeopardy in a moment of time. News began pouring in from all quarters and as usual, Christian opinions vacillate from one extreme to another. It is always important to remember that we need the sure word of the Lord in such circumstances.

 

While some have heralded Dr. Garang as a great Christian, he was very much a tribalist and traditionalist despite his western education. He never ever gave a clear statement about being born again though he was sympathetic to Christianity.

 

Personally, though I knew Dr. Garang well and respected his role and work in the whole peace process it must never be forgotten that it was the POWER OF INTERCESSION that made peace a reality and actuality for Southern Sudan.

 

There is only one future for Southern Sudan: TOTAL INDEPENDENCE FROM KHARTOUM. Dr. Garang was really opposed to this in preference to a UNITED Sudan under his leadership. This vision and agenda has been in CONFLICT with the vision and purpose of ALMIGHTY GOD. Kalibu did not fight and pay an enormous price in intercession to see God’s purpose and plan frittered away by personal ambition and self aggrandizement. When men, no matter how great they are or have been mightily used, stand in the way of God’s purposes, they will be removed.

 

Sad though it is, Dr. Garang’s timely removal places the PEACE accord back on GOD’S TRACK by giving the proponents of total independence of the South an even playing field. The place of intercession was gained for Southern freedom in the face of an enormous price. God is honoring the sacrifices made and will not allow anyone or anything to stand in the way of His agenda.

 

Mr. Salva Kiir who replaces Dr. John Garang is a staunch advocate of total independence of the South and will work to this end. This is fully within the plan of the blessed Holy Spirit. I believe this to be the true “word of the Lord.”

 

 MOCAMBIQUE

 

A few months ago we had an article about the need for a guest cottage for our base in Morrumbala, Mocambique which is run by Jim and Eileen Kirt.  We are very excited to report that the complete $6,000 required for this project has been donated and this will enable them to begin building.

 

The next project for the base in Mocambique is the construction of a classroom and dormitory for pastors who attend the Bible School.  The cost of this project is $2,500.

 

Jim and Eileen have given their all to this nation and because of this they will reap a mighty harvest.  They are making Disciples and leading by example as opposed to so many who come and go and merely make converts.

ZIMBABWE ELDERLY

 

Things in Zimbabwe go from bad to worse.  Robert Mugabe recently returned from China empty handed.  He had gone to beg for money with which to pay off some of the debt that Zimbabwe owes the International Monetary Fund.   Now that he has finished taking away all the farms from the white farmers, causing the nation great hunger and famine because no-one is growing crops, he has sent out his police to destroy shanty towns of the black farm workers who no longer have homes on the farms he has stolen.  They have destroyed all the stalls of the flower sellers and soap stone carvers which have always been so much a part of the Zimbabwe scene.  They were there when I was a child and last year when we were there I took my two year old grandson to pick out some small soap stone carvings of animals to bring back with him.  It is hard to imagine that the police came in and smashed everything.  They threw all the wooden carvings into  fires and beat up anyone trying to resist.  People were not even permitted to take their items home with them—everything was destroyed.

 

Our thanks to all those who have been supporting the elderly in Zimbabwe.  So many of them are unable to write or will ever be able to thank you themselves but you have really helped to make their final years so much more comfortable.

We are needing reference books and good reading books for the school library in Malawi.  If you have any they can be boxed and sent to Toledo to go on the container.  Please check with your libraries, telling them about the project and see if they can assist and another option is to check with schools in your school district of if you have a university you might check with it.
